‘I won’t lie to you, I’m no singer’ COMIC BRYDON WON’T CASH IN ON HIS MUSIC

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by JAMES INGHAM

FUNNYMAN Rob Brydon says he has snubbed big offers to record and release his own album.

The Gavin And Stacey star has been approached by a number of major record labels.

But the actor and comedian has turned them down as he fears fans will see him as an “opportunist”.

Rob, 53, said: “I’ve been offered many times but it’s not for me. I would love to make an album and I love singing but I just don’t want to release it.

“I am involved in some sort of music project but it’s not recording an album.”

Other stars who have recently put out their own records include EastEnders actor Shane Richie, Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, DIY SOS’s Nick Knowles and Bradley Walsh, the presenter of ITV’s The Chase.

Former Coronation Street actor Walsh had the biggest-selling debut album in 2016 with his swing record Chasing Dreams.

But Rob, who is the host of panel show Would I Lie To You?, said: “You can’t win if you are an actor or TV presenter and release an album.

“No matter how good it is you are viewed as an opportunist. I love all kinds of music and am passionate about singing but I don’t feel comfortable selling a record.”

Rob also revealed that every year he turns down a big pay packet to appear on Strictly Come Dancing.

He added: “I get offered Strictly every year and say no every year.

“I would never do any reality show, it is just not for me.

“I’m heading on the road later in the year though, for my I Am Standing Up tour which starts this September.”

Despite turning down record deals, Rob says performing at Wembley Arena with the Welsh indie rock band Stereophonics in 2015 was a career highlight.

He said: “I went with my wife to watch them and said I was going to the loo.

“I then got on stage with them to sing Mama Told Me Not To Come, which was incredible.

“I was lucky because I’m good friends with the band and Tom Jones couldn’t make it.”

Rob and his Gavin And Stacey co-star Ruth Jones also had a hit single back in 2009 with a cover of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s version of Islands In The Stream.
