Glenn turns up the heat
GLENN IRWIN scorched to his first Bennetts British Superbike Championship pole as the temperatures soared at Brands Hatch yesterday.
The Northern Irishman clocked his hot lap of 1min 2.628secs early in the final qualifying session.
Irwin (below) said: “I’m really, really happy with that. It’s great to tick a British Superbike pole off and now I want to emulate that in the races.
“My fastest lap was good, it wasn’t the perfect lap but it came together when it mattered.” McAMS Yamaha’s Josh Brookes and the RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon tried to snatch pole.
But neither were able to topple Ducati’s Irwin and Brookes ended the day second just 0.081secs adrift. Dixon was third,
0.059secs further back. Championship leader Leon Haslam will start from the second row in fifth position, with youngster Taz Mackenzie alongside him in fourth and his JG Speedfit team-mate Luke Mossey sixth.
