Oosty’s in need of a big boost

LOUIS OOSTHUIZEN famously bought a tractor with some of his £850,000 purse for winning the 2010 Open at St Andrews. Now, the South African admits he will have to get on his bike to get near to the distant leaders eight years on at Carnoustie. Oosthuizen, 35, grew up on the family farm near Cape Town where he was first spotted hitting balls by two-time Open winner Ernie Els and he knows he faces a monumental task.

But he has never been afraid of a challenge and will give everything to climb his way up the leaderboar­d on what promises to be a dramatic day of golf. Oosthuizen felt down in the dumps even after shooting a 69 in a four-birdie round which left him on two under.
