Blend it like Beckham

DAVID TO BE TELLY CHEF

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by MIKE PARKER U.S. Editor

DAVID Beckham is set to land a tasty new role in the US – as a television chef.

Bosses at Food Network channel are working on a deal to give him a series of 10 or 15-minute slots.

They reckon demonstrations of his superhealthy smoothies and fast meals would make great telly.

Execs were blown away by Becks’ culinary skills and knowledge during recent guest appearances on his chef pal Gordon Ramsay’s shows.

One of his dishes was voted the best on a US episode of The F Word.

A senior studio source said: “He’s not just another celebrity guest star having a quick laugh in a cookery show. David is the real deal and has an extensive knowledge of fitness nutrition from his playing days.”

It is not yet known if Becks’ spots will be stand-alone appearances between longer shows or will be slotted into an existing TV series.

It is believed the deal is being done through one of Ramsay’s production companies and could air early next year.

David learned gourmet tricks on a six-month course at a professional cookery school in Italy when he played for AC Milan.

The former England and Man United captain, 43, regularly whips up exotic dishes for Posh and their children.

He even makes his own pasta. David said: “I love cooking. It relaxes me.”

The Beckhams still own a mansion in Beverly Hills, a rented penthouse in Manhattan, and are house-hunting in Miami where his new Major League Soccer side will kick off in 2020.

He remains close to his West Coast personal trainer Tegan Haining, who turned him on to metabolismboosting smoothies and protein shakes.

A mate said: “Tegan’s recipes for power drinks are legendary and I’m sure David would want to appeal to fitness enthusiasts as well as foodies by featuring them on his minishow.”

A US spokesman for Becks said he would not discuss any deals prior to a formal announcement.

LA-based media analyst Mike Raia said: “He’s a huge sporting icon here and he might surprise himself by acquiring a big cult following as a gifted home cook.”
