CONTRACT’S NO BIG DEAL FOR RAMBO
RYAN GIGGS insists Aaron Ramsey’s form will not be affected by his contract stand-off with Arsenal.
But the Wales boss admits he is nervous about going to watch Ramsey today in Cardiff against
Neil Warnock’s combative side.
Ramsey, who has 53 caps and 13 international goals, is in the final year of his current Gunners deal.
There is still no sign of a breakthrough in talks and the Welshman, 27, could command a significant rise on his current £110,000-a-week earnings as a free agent.
The midfielder looks set to keep Arsenal sweating on his future but was recalled to their starting line-up for the win over West Ham last weekend ahead of today’s trip to his first club Cardiff.
Giggs (below) – appointed in January – said: “I will be there, probably wincing at every tackle.
“It doesn’t help that you are playing a Neil Warnock team.
“Aaron is an experienced player and a massive player for us.
“His contract won’t be a distraction, footballers are happiest when they’re on the pitch, other stuff is just noise that they have to block out.
“You see in training that he just loves playing football.
“He wants to get on the ball all the time, wants to make runs forward and it was great for me to see first-hand for the first time.”
Giggs’ side entertain Ireland on Thursday and go to Denmark on Sunday in the UEFA Nations League. DOU THE BUSINESS: Matteo Guendouzi is part of the new-look Gunners side
