MEG SO BLUE ON BIG DAY
Bridal dress secret
MEGHAN Markle had a blue piece of fabric from the outfit she wore on her first date with Prince Harry stitched into her wedding dress – as her “something blue”.
The former Hollywood actress reveals her big-day secret on ITV documentary Queen of the World.
The Duchess of Sussex is reunited with the dress on the show for the first time since the ceremony at St George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle on May 19.
Meghan said she was keen to adhere to the bride’s tradition of having “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” on her big day.
She said: “My goodness, it’s amazing, isn’t it? Somewhere in here, there’s a piece of…did you see it? The piece of blue fabric that’s stitched inside?
“It was my ‘something blue’. It’s fabric from the dress that I wore on our first date.”
Meghan met Harry on a blind date in 2016.
During the film, Meghan marvelled at the intricate handiwork that went into her wedding veil, which was embroidered with flowers from each of the 53 Commonwealth nations.
She said: “It was important for me, especially now being a part of the Royal Family, to have all 53 of the Commonwealth countries incorporated. And I knew that it would be a fun surprise as well for my now husband, who didn’t know, and he was really over the moon to find out that I would make this choice for our day together.”
She added: “I think the other members of the family had a similar reaction, so, yeah, it was good news all around, I think.
“I hope people liked it as much as I liked helping to create it.”
Prince Harry is seen in the documentary meeting young people from the Caribbean working for the royals.
He said to one off them: “You’ve only been here for two weeks.
“Have you bumped into the Queen yet?
“If you suddenly bump into her in the corridor don’t panic. And I know you will. We all do.”
Queen Of The World is on ITV at 9.15pm on Tuesday.
