Live gig’s given the O-Kay by TV great

HIT comedy Early Doors has made a comeback thanks to Peter Kay.

The BBC sitcom has been revived as a stage show.

Writer Craig Cash was nervous about bringing it back 14 years after it was last on TV.

But comic Peter, inset, who helped pen scripts for the original series, gave him the confidence to go for it.

Craig, 58, said: “A while ago when we first started writing Early Doors Live, I was talking about it to Peter. I was a little apprehensi­ve not having done live stuff. “He was really pleased to hear we were doing the live show. I said, ‘I’m really nervous about going on stage’. ‘You’ll love it,’ he replied. ‘Once you walk out there and feel the love from the audience, you won’t want to do anything else’.

“I hope he’s right. He should know. I’m sure he will be.”

Peter, 45, also helped make the set for the show, based in a Stockport pub, realistic.

Craig, right, added: “Peter actually came in when we were first putting the set up. We were writing graffiti on the toilet walls and he wrote in the gents above the urinals, ‘Susan, if you are reading this – it’s over’.”The UK tour of Early Doors Live heads to Glasgow tomorrow. Back in 2003 the original TV series launched to rave reviews. Craig still gets praise from fans to this day.
