Stretch of M6 dubbed ‘Cheshire’s Bermuda Triangle’ IT’S A CARRIAGEWAY

- ■ by CHARLES WADE PALMER

GHOSTS have been blamed for an accident blackspot on a motorway.

Paranormal investigator Mike Brooker says drivers have reported phantom lorries, vanishing hitchhikers and even sightings of Roman soldiers.

The bizarre claims have led him to describe the stretch of the M6 between junctions 16 and 19 as “Cheshire’s Bermuda Triangle”.

Mike, of Northwich Cheshire, said: “I know people who have lost their lives and families who have been affected by accidents on this stretch of motorway.

“There appear to be two principal answers.

“One is that the motorway was built on a Roman burial site and the other is that it was the site of the slaughter of a Scottish army.

“It is clear something is very wrong to cause so many accidents on what is to all intents and purposes a fairly straight stretch.”

Mike has researched theories behind the high accident rates on the road ever since his school pals died on it in 1976.

And his late father-inlaw Arthur Hancock was almost buried alive while building the road.

Mike said: “He was buried by a sand slide.

“Fortunately, there were a number of colleagues close by who were able to dig him out.

“He would be called out at all hours as there had been another incident with no apparent reason.

“Arthur certainly felt something wasn’t right with that area.”

Driver Declan Stewart described one incident, saying: “It was so weird.

“I was driving past the turn-off to Middlewich and everything got a bit darker and a strange mist drifted across the road.

“I couldn’t see anything, but I could hear a faint clanging of metal. And there was a smell, a sort of mix between wool, oats and offal. The details are hazy, but I knew something unusual was going on.”

In a 2006 survey by road building company Tarmac, the M6 had more spooky goings-on than any other route in the country.

“We’ve had more really clear sightings reported from the M6 than any other road,” said Tony Simmons who did the survey.
