Fran’s in mood to finish job

-

came here to do a job and it wasn’t to go in the records books or anything like that. It’s about the team, it’s about getting to

14-and-a-half points. “We’re getting closer but those four-and-a-half points we’re going to need tomorrow, we’re going to have to fight hard for them. “They’re

12 great players and it’s not going to be easy but we’re doing it properly, we’re doing it the right way.”

Rory McIlroy (above) will lead Europe’s attempt to close out a famous Ryder Cup victory at Le Golf National after being sent out first in the singles.

McIlroy, who lost to Patrick Reed in the same role at Hazeltine in 2016, will face Justin Thomas.

“I have a lot of belief in him and I trust him as a player but also trust him very much as a person so it’s a great place for him to be with the responsibility,” said European captain Thomas Bjorn.

Mcllroy was involved in an angry outburst at a spectator who had questioned his putting after holing out at the third yesterday afternoon but Bjorn added: “He hasn’t mentioned it to me.”
