‘People are disappointed I’m not Jay’ INBETWEENERS’ JAMES TALKS TO OUR MAN ON SET OF NEW SHOW

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by ED GLEAVE TV Editor

JAMES Buckley thinks people are fed-up he’s not like his character on Inbetweeners.

He became famous for playing lewd Jay, inset, on the E4 comedy, but in real life he’s not as outrageous.

James, 31, said: “I’m just a married man with two kids trying to go about his life.

“I think people would rather meet Jay than me – I think most people are disappointed.

“They think they’re going to meet this crazy, wacky pervert. But no-one is really like that in real life.

“I can’t imagine being in a room with Jay for too long. That would be infuriating.”

The Inbetweeners ran for three series and spawned two movies.

James said: “After we finished we got offered pretty much every teen comedy. But we did that sort of thing as well as anyone could, so there wasn’t any interest in revisiting it.”

These days James is busy with his series Zapped, shown on comedy channel Dave.

He plays office worker Brian who is transported to a magical, medieval land called Munty and can’t get back to the real world.

James said: “With The Inbetweeners we found the comedy in the realism. “What’s great about Zapped is we’re in a new universe where there are no rules. Things don’t have to make sense, so we have a lot of freedom. “People say they like the show and that’s always good to hear. It genuinely means a lot. That feeling has never worn out for me. “I always assume people want to talk to me about The Inbetweeners, so when they want to talk about Zapped it’s extra special.”

Zapped returns for its third series on October 17. James added: “This series we hit the ground running – we didn’t need to set things up. “We could get stuck right into it and we were able to focus on the more interesting characters rather than the Brian story, which I think makes it funnier.”
