Eaves leaves mark on leaders Pompey

PORTSMOUTH slipped to their first league defeat of the season as they lost 2-0 to Gillingham at Fratton Park.

Tom Eaves fired the Gills ahead and Alex Lacey struck their second in first-half stoppage time.

Pompey’s closest rivals Peterborou­gh were thumped 4-0 by Barnsley at London Road with goals from George Moncur, Brad Potts’ double and Jacob Brown’s late fourth.

Oxford remain winless on the road after a goalless draw at Southend, while Rochdale twice hit back to draw 2-2 at Blackpool. Ryan Delaney cancelled out Jordan Thompson’s early opener and Calvin Andrew headed a late equaliser after the hosts had regained the lead through Curtis Tilt.

Wycombe clinched their first home league win of the season with a 2-1 win against Burton.

Joe Jacobson’s penalty and Adebayo Akinfenwa’s header gave them a 2-0 half-time lead. Marvin Sordell replied soon after the restart.

Plymouth registered their first league win of the season thanks to Freddie Ladapo’s second-half header in a 1-0 home victory against AFC Wimbledon.
