GLENN’S ENGLAND DREAM

- ■ by CHRIS HATHERALL Last five meetings Overall record

BRIGHTON striker Glenn Murray says he would be up for an England call from Gareth Southgate – even at the age of 35.

Murray scored his fifth goal of the season on Friday as the Seagulls beat West Ham 1-0 to go into the weekend as the top-scoring English striker in the Premier League.

In fact, only Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, with six goals, was above him in the goal charts.

So at an age when many other players are retiring from international duty, Murray would not hesitate in saying ‘yes’ to his country.

He said: “If he was to pick me then I’d be delighted.

“My job first and foremost is to score goals for Brighton and enjoy my football – and that’s exactly what I’m doing. Whatever comes off the back of that, so be it.”

The challenge for Murray is that Southgate has concentrated his efforts on bringing young players into his squad – with Jadon Sancho, 18, Mason Mount,

19, and James Maddison,

21, the latest recruits for UEFA Nations League ties against Spain and Croatia.

But the striker’s fast start to the campaign and his proven ability to score at every level so far in his career means the veteran is confident.

“The one thing that doesn’t change throughout the divisions or the levels is that the goalposts don’t move,” he said.

“The players get better, don’t get me wrong. But the deliveries get better and the players you are playing with get better too.” GLOVE IS ALL YOU NEED: Kepa is a big fan of Spain team-mate De Gea Apr 2018: Chelsea 2 S’hampton 0 Apr 2018: S’hampton 2 Chelsea 3 Dec 2017: Chelsea 1 S’hampton 0 Apr 2017: Chelsea 4 S’hampton 2 Oct 2016: S’hampton 0 Chelsea 2
