we’ve been playing throughout this season.

“We’re the champions. We have a point to prove. We did what we did last season, tore the Premier League apart by getting the 100 points we did and breaking the records we did.

“But that’s last season. We can’t rest on that now.

“The first thing we want to do is back-to-back titles. Not many have done that. Hopefully, City can be the first in a number of years.”

Walker was born in May 1990 – the last time Liverpool won the title. But the significance didn’t really register in the City defender’s mind as he looked forward to many more years of Etihad dominance.

He said: “They’ve got worldclass forwards. If they do score, never mind. Let’s not panic or try to rush. Because when we’ve got the ball that’s when they’re at their most dangerous on the counter-attack.

“I believe in myself. I believe in my team-mates. And most definitely I believe in the manager. They’re the ones which count. That will get us what we want.

“I feel with the way Liverpool are going they’re a good team now with a fantastic manager. Great players individually and collectively.

“But we’re also a very good team. We’re both fighting for the same thing and only one of us can do it. Hopefully, it’s us.

“Hopefully, we can keep producing the records and the results that we have been doing since I’ve been at Manchester City. That should reassure us about keeping going.”

Walker can’t wait to walk out at Anfield and face the foe, including two of his England team-mates Trent AlexanderArnold and Joe Gomez.

He added: “Yeah, they are both good players. Trent is going to be a phenomenal full-back. He is still young and learning the game, which I am as well, but he is going to be one of the best.

“Joe has come on leaps and bounds. To see how he’s matured as a man it’s full credit to him.” always had better teams than I had but I would not compare myself with him. I see what he did in different teams. He had better teams, true.

“But what he has been doing, I never heard of something similar.

“People in Liverpool would say differently about Big Bill (Shankly) and Big Bob (Paisley) but it is hard to compare eras.”
