MICHELLE MOVIE’S A HUGE FLOP Film debut panned

- ■ by CHARLES WADE-PALMER

MICHELLE Keegan’s big-screen debut has bombed at the box office.

The film made just £1,502 during its opening weekend.

Strangeways Here We Come has been blasted by critics as a knock-off of telly hit Shameless but without the laughs.

Takings from the movie’s second weekend slumped to just £160, meaning it has brought in a total of only £2,640.

Filmmakers are unlikely to have made enough money to cover former Corrie star Michelle’s fee to play the role of Demi.

Reactions to Strangeways have been a far cry from BBC’s Our Girl, in which Michelle, 31, plays an Army medic.

A source said: “Usually having Michelle on your cast list helps guarantee good viewing figures.

“She’s loved by everyone, and since leaving Corrie has really impressed.

“Sadly, this time round that’s not the case. It’s very embarrassing for her.”

Billed as a black comedy drama, Strangeways Here We Come follows a group of desperate neighbours dodging a debt collector.

One thing leads to another at a house party and they end up killing him.

Only a handful of cinemas in the country screened Michelle’s first film on its opening weekend but it quickly became available for mobile downloads.

The movie has since become available on app stores such as Sky Store and Google Play, costing fans £5.50 to rent and £9.99 to buy. Filmmakers describe the movie as a seriously funny flick about students, loans, blackmail, fetish, booze, partying and murder but the themes have not gone down well.

Film critic Neil White tweeted: “Director Chris Green has defended his film against unfavourable reviews by saying the people of Salford will get it.

“I reckon if its residents do find it funny, they need mass therapy.”
