I WAS THE SECRET TRANS LOVER OF FREDDIE MERCURY

- ■ by ED GLEAVE

A TRANSEXUAL pop diva has revealed she had a secret affair with Freddie Mercury.

Lanah P enjoyed intimate meetings with the Queen frontman and helped him to explore his sexuality.

They first met when she was starring on comedy series The Comic Strip Presents.

Speaking about her fling with the rock icon for the first time, Lanah, 59, said: “Freddie saw me on TV and said to one of his friends, ‘I saw this camp creature on television and I’d love to meet them’. So we met one night at Studio Valbonne in Soho.

“At first he didn’t set my knickers on fire. But the affection grew…and that wasn’t the only thing that grew.

“We drank Dom Perignon because he loved his champagne. We had a lot in common and we gelled.

“A few days later I got a call and he asked to see me again. It was then the more intimate stuff started to happen. It was intense. Of course there was admiration there. But it was driven by lust. He was fantastic. “I was transitioning to a woman at the time. I had started my hormone treatment the year before. I was really quite surprised I was his type.

“His relationships before then were all gay men with handlebar moustaches. The type of men we called clones back then.”

Lanah, who was once known as Alan Pillay and now identifies as gender fluid, stayed in touch with Freddie and they continued to meet.

She believes the affair had a huge impact on both of them.

Lanah said: “I think I broadened Freddie’s understanding of himself. I helped him with self-discovery.

“I told him that I thought he went beyond limitations and was polysexual – he covered everything.

“The funny thing about Freddie is he was always looking for The One. And when he liked someone he would get fixated on them.

“But all of that was contradicted by this really promiscuous side of him. He was a conflicted person.

“I was invited to some of his parties. They were let’s say ‘group functions’. That didn’t fit in with my morality. That wasn’t my scene.”

Freddie lavished her with gifts but she kept their relationship secret – even from loved ones.

They met in 1984, eight years after Freddie ended his relationship with his “common law wife”

Mary Austin.

She said: “Freddie was almost the total antithesis of his rock star persona. He was quite a deep thinker. And he had a heart as big as Atlas.

“He gave me some 24-carat diamond gold earrings. And another time it was a gold band. He even offered me money.

“But I kept my connection with him private. I didn’t want people to know I had met him. I was a relative nobody.

“I didn’t want anybody thinking I was hanging out with someone so they would facilitate my career. I was a very independent person.

“But some people still knew we’d had something”

Lanah is furious the new movie about Freddie plays down his varied sex life.

Critics have accused producers of Bohemian Rhapsody, which stars Rami Malek as Freddie, of “straight-washing” his legacy.

Lanah said: “There isn’t enough of an expose of his debauchery. I think it’s bonkers. They have undermined people’s intelligence given what went on. It’s

total hypocrisy.”
