I AM the world’s leading advocate of sleeping apart.

This is because humans are the only animals that chose to sleep together for “intimacy”.

Couples first began sharing a bed in the 16th century because of a lack of space. The rich never slept together.

My study with the Sociology Department of the University of Surrey showed that much of your sleep disturbance can be attributed to the night-time behaviours of your bed partner.

Sleeping together is a modern phenomenon and isn’t natural.

If you’re managing to sleep soundly side by side then keep to that pattern. However, if you are being disturbed from your sleep by your bed partner and this is affecting the way you feel during the day, you may want to consider separate beds or bedrooms.

Not sleeping together is a mature, pragmatic solution to a problem and has no bearing on the strength or otherwise of your relationship.

Sleeping separately will potentially mean you sleep better, feel happier and therefore are much more in the mood for being loving with your partner in other ways.

Waking up thinking: “You have ruined my night, ruined my day, ruined my life” isn’t healthy.

I’m calling on Britain to remove the taboo from the idea of separate beds. IF separate bedrooms aren’t possible then at least consider having a bigger, better bed. If you and your partner sleep in a standard UK double bed you each have 9in (22.5 cm) LESS space to sleep in than your child.

The minimum that two adults should sleep in is a 6ft (180cm bed). THE DREAM: Spending time with your first love. MEANING: The “first love” signifies excitement, passion, desire.

It is those feelings your psyche is yearning for, not necessarily the person. It’s a gentle nudge to seek these feelings once again.
