Deadly secrets of sharp-dressed Brits

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by ISOBEL DICKINSON

LETHAL blades are being sold disguised as earrings.

The £32 sterling silver pairs look like ordinary jewellery but can be turned into weapons in two flicks.

The pieces are being sold on craft site Etsy with the seller boasting: “You would look ‘sharp’ in these earrings. They are adorable yet dangerous!

“When you put them on, they look like your standard dangle earrings from one side. From either side, you can see they are tiny folding knives.

“Take them off and open them up and you will find they are sharp and fully functional.”

The site states: “The blade is about 9/16 inch and sharp and has a notch on the blade just like full-sized pocket knives to open easily.

“The blade and handle are stainless and it is stamped on one side with the knife company logo.

“These earrings are so small you have to see them to believe it.”

The worrying find came after Home Secretary Sajid Javid made a plea to police bosses to ensure they make “full use” of stop and search powers to tackle a wave of

fatal stabbings in London. He reportedly met Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick to ask her to tackle the crimewave, adding: “We must act together, and I stand with you as we face this challenge.”

The Offensive Weapons Bill – which includes measures to ban online knife sales to juveniles – was highlighted by the Home Office as key in tackling blade crime.

Last Monday, a parliamentary delay in introducing the Bill stopped it from progressing through the Commons.

The start of November saw five people killed by knife attacks in six days.
