IT’S EASY BREES-Y
Drew flying
DREW BREES has stepped it up a level for New Orleans this season in what has already been a Hall of Fame career.
And the Philadelphia Eagles know the “insane” task that awaits them tonight as they travel to face the Saints.
The defending Super Bowl champions’ campaign is firmly in the balance at 4-5 and with a defence which is struggling to stop the pass, there is no quarterback in the NFL they would rather avoid right now.
Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz says his side have a big job on their hands to contain Brees – who is completing more than 77 per cent of his throws for the season – and the 8-1 Saints.
They are averaging more than 36 points a game so far in 2018 and with the addition of veteran receiver Brandon Marshall, they are showing no signs of slowing down.
Schwartz said: “I mean, Drew’s playing at an insane level right now.
“I looked at his interception reel. There was one. It didn’t take us long to get through the sack and interception reel.
“His incompletions? Didn’t take us long to get through those, either.” The Saints and the Eagles, of course, were little more than 10 seconds away from facing each other in the NFC Championship game last January before the “Minneapolis Miracle” ended Brees & Co’s year.
And after some off-season comments from star Saints running back Alvin Kamara, who said his side would have beaten the Eagles in that never-to-be NFC title game, tonight’s clash will have some extra spice.
Kamara clarified his comments this week by insisting he meant “no disrespect”.
Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins said: “We won the Super Bowl.
“I have a laundry list of reasons why I want to be excited for this game.
“One it’s our next game. Two, our season is kind of in the balance. I could go on for days, I don’t need any more motivation.” GREAT SAINT: Drew Brees is playing at an ‘insane level’
