SALAH COPIES RIVAL RAMOS
MO SALAH mimicked a Sergio Ramos goal celebration as Jurgen Klopp’s Reds kept pace with Man City at the top of the Premier League table.
The little Egyptian struck the first goal in a 3-0 victory, coolly sidefooting home past Ben Foster.
But before he was engulfed by joyous team-mates, Salah made a ‘butterfly’ gesture to the travelling fans – one that has been used in the past by the Real Madrid and Spain defender (left).
The two players share history, with Ramos the Madrid player involved in the incident which ended Salah’s involvement in last season’s Champions League Final.
Quizzed about it after the final whistle, Klopp said he did not know why his star man Salah had chosen to mark his strike in that fashion. The move came less than 24 hours after Ramos was accused of breaching anti-doping rules by German media following the 2017 Champions League Final against Juventus in Cardiff.
Ramos yesterday strongly denied the claim.
He was reported to have tested positive for anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone, which is only banned if testers are not informed of its use.
Yesterday Ramos posted a lengthy explanation of his position which read: “I am vehemently opposed to doping. I have never participated, nor will I ever
participate in, nor have I consented to, nor will I ever consent to, any form of doping.
“Over the course of my long career I have passed satisfactorily an infinite number of anti-doping tests.
“My legal team will consider taking action in those cases which misrepresent the truth.”
The report in Der Spiegel said doping control officers were told Ramos, 32, had taken a different anti-inflammatory.
UEFA accepted an apology from Ramos, who blamed a club doctor for the mix-up. Testers were told Ramos injected betamethasone, which is also banned by the World Anti-Doping Authority, in his left knee and left shoulder, rather than dexamethasone.
Both drugs are permitted if they are declared at the testing stage.
