Released man dead

A MAN died after being hit by a cab, shortly after he was freed by cops.

Greater Manchester Police said the victim, who was in his 60s, was walking in the southbound carriageway of Stockport Road, in Longsight, around 2.10am yesterday when he was struck.

The driver remained at the scene.

Hours earlier, the dead man had been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and was released with a fixed penalty notice.

Due to his contact with officers, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
