PARTY ANIMAL RINGO BOOZE BATTLE MISERY
RINGO Starr says he still battles the temptation of drink and drugs every day – 30 years after getting sober.
The music icon partied through the 70s and 80s with stars like The Who’s Keith Moon and Harry Nilsson before realizing his booze addiction was about to cost him his marriage.
Sir Ringo confessed that even on his way to rehab he boozed heavily.
“I drank all the way to rehab as I didn’t know how you didn’t drink.”
He added: “You quit on a daily basis – that is how it works. Sometimes I am in the most beautiful place in the world and my head will say (enjoy it) with a joint...a drink or some coke.”
Ringo, who once boasted of taking piles of cocaine and sinking 16 bottles of wine in sessions, felt he hit the wall when his marriage to Bond actress Barbara Bach was on the rocks.
He remembered: “My marriage was falling apart and I was about to lose everything I loved.”
The Beatle revealed that after talking with his wife about how they could carry on, they decided he had to try rehab.
He added: “We both had a moment of clarity.”
