Care bears wrath of ice-cold Eddie

- ■ by GARY FITZGERALD

DUMPED Danny Care still has time to wriggle his way back into Eddie Jones’ England World Cup plans.

That is the view of former captain Lawrence Dallaglio, who feels sorry for the No.9 after he felt the wrath of Jones during the Autumn Tests.

Care, 31, was axed from the squad for the final Twickenham clash with Australia after being told by the unimpressed Aussie to “go away and work on things”.

Saracens No.9 Richard Wigglesworth threw his hat into the Six Nations ring by playing well as a second-half replacement in the victory over the Wallabies.

And with Leicester’s Ben Youngs still Jones’ first choice, Care (right) is facing a real fight to get back in contention. But Dallaglio said: “He has done that in the past with England and he can do so again.

“Eddie doesn’t mess about when he decides he doesn’t like the way things are going and wants more from a certain player or his team. But Danny is a great player. He hasn’t got 80-odd caps for nothing.

“He badly wants to be England’s World Cup No.9 and I feel he still can if he sorts out the things he needs to improve. Danny will be training even harder knowing what he has to do to win back the England head coach’s vote.”
