MINA MACHINE: The former Barcelona man has made a good impression at Everton YERRY MINA can remember it like it was yesterday – the promise he made to his mother when he was just a young kid.
bike and I used that to deliver fruit and sugar to people’s homes.
“With all the journeys, I might make two dollars a day – 6,000 pesos (roughly £1.50). I would give 4,000 pesos to my mum to buy whatever she might need to buy.
“I’d give 1,000 pesos to my younger brother so he could buy a ball or whatever. Then there would be 1,000 for me to go training and maybe buy water afterwards.”
Mina’s route to the top of the game has been a scary one at times. He said: “When I was training as a kid it was 40 minutes from mine. I didn’t have enough for the bus fare but there were lorries full of sand at the traffic lights. “When they stopped I would jump on and just be clinging on. “When it was raining it was horrible. You could easily slip. I never told my mum – she would never have let me go.”
It is clear that Mina had one hell of a struggle in his early life but you would never guess to look at him. His smile is infectious but when he crosses the line, he puts on a mean mask.
Mina admits losing is not an option – to the extent he would consider if he was in the opposition ranks.
He added: “There are no friends when I go out on the field. If I was playing against my dad I would have to dish it out to him as well. ” Everton v Watford, Tomorrow
