Feast on carbs to feel great

POP open the bonnet of any new car and you’ll be faced with a massive black plastic cover. Underneath it there’s a whole load of visual ugliness.

That wasn’t the case 40 years ago.

Check out the 1974 Datsun 240z I’m driving this week. With its trio of gauze-filtered twin-choke carbs and huge expanses of painted steel and polished alloys, it’s almost as pretty under the bonnet as it is on the outside.
