A Sea change

- RICHARD EDWARDS

DAVID SEAMAN believes Unai Emery needs tighten up the defence if Arsenal are to grab a top-four finish.

Seaman, who won three league titles during his Gunners career, said: “Arsenal have always been good going forward but their defending needs tightening up.

“Attacking-wise we’re great, we just need to have a little bit more cunning and use more experience when we’re defending.

“We are giving away too many chances per game.

“We’ve seen Bernd Leno or Petr Cech having four or five saves to make every match. That’s too many. But the confidence is back.”

Overall, the Gunners legend is delighted with the side’s progress. He said: “Emery’s side is playing with self-assurance and that is hugely important when you have so many young players.

“But he still needs a couple of transfer windows to put his stamp on that team because a lot of this side is still Arsene Wenger’s.

“Getting into the top four would be a great season.

“The top two are going to run away with it.

“So it’s the next two places that are going to be difficult as you have us, Tottenham and Chelsea in the running.”
