LUCKY DEVIL
Mourinho’s dig at Klopp title chasers
JOSE MOURINHO has stoked up the volatile Mersey-Manchester rivalry ahead of today’s clash by branding Liverpool LUCKY.
The Old Trafford boss cited Liverpool’s derby victory over Everton when Divock Origi scored in the 96th minute after Jordan Pickford pushed Virgil van Dijk’s shot on to his bar.
Then Mourinho pointed to the win at Bournemouth when Mo Salah was clearly offside before scoring his first goal.
And in midweek came Kop keeper Alisson’s late, great save against Napoli to keep them in the Champions League.
Mourinho said: “They are very confident about themselves.
“They have this feeling of
– I know that feeling well
– the feeling of the lucky ones where
everything goes in your direction. They know how they beat Everton. They know that the last match, the opening goal was offside.
“And they know that against Napoli in the last seconds they could be out.
“They have this feeling which I also had when my teams were top of the league and it looks like everything goes in your direction.
“But I think they are not stupid. I think they also know the match they have is difficult. They also know we have our weaknesses, our strengths. And I think they will respect our strengths.
“I think if they don’t do that I will be happy with that. But I think they know the game is very difficult for them. They know they need every point if they want to be champions.
“So, I think they are professionals and being professional is respecting Manchester United. They know that we can go there and win.”
