POLICE hunting for the suspected murderer of a woman have arrested a man in Liverpool.

They had been searching for Michael Foran, 32, in connection with the death of June Jones, 33, who was found dead at her maisonette in West Bromwich.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said a 32-yearold man will now be transferred to them for questioning.

Miss Jones was reported missing by her sister on Boxing Day.

Police said there was evidence she was the victim of a “sustained and brutal assault with a weapon”.

THE dad stabbed to death on a train in front of his teenage son was on a day trip the day before his 52nd birthday.

The family of Lee Pomeroy yesterday spoke of their agony over the “horrific and pointless attack”.

Computer programmer Lee was taking his 14-year-old son to London when he was attacked on the Guildford to Waterloo service just after 1pm on Friday.

Police said he suffered multiple stab wounds after a “verbal discussion” with another man and died in the carriage.

Eyewitnesses said the dad-ofone “didn’t stand a chance”.

His family paid tribute to the “devoted family man” as police arrested their prime suspect 15 miles away from the scene in a 6am raid yesterday.

A statement said: “Lee took his son on a trip to London hoping to spend some quality time with him which was cut short by a horrific and pointless attack.

“Lee would have had his birthday today but did not get to see his presents. He was an honest, bright person, who loved music very much. He knew history and art and he was a bachelor of science in maths.

“He was a devoted family man. He was an honourable man and would always help somebody who was in trouble.

“He was a loving husband and father. He will be deeply missed by all his family.”

The stabbing followed a “vicious” three-minute row which spilled through two carriages.

The suspect fled the train at Clandon station, while the service continued to Horsley station where police and paramedics attended.

A 35-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning after a manhunt was launched. A 27-year-old woman was also held at the property in Farnham, Surrey.

A post-mortem examination is set to take place early next week.

A woman in the garden of Mr Pomeroy’s home in Guildford said it was “too fresh” for his wife to comment.

Talking over the back gate of the semi-detached house, she did not reveal her relation to the family but said: “It is too fresh. It was in front of their 14-yearold son.

“She has asked me not to say anything. She does not want to say anything.”

A neighbour two doors down said he was “shocked” to hear the victim lived on his street.

He said: “We don’t know them. They are quite private people. But I am shocked and disgusted that he has lost his life. It’s dreadful.”

The victim’s son and other relatives are being supported by family liaison officers.

British Transport Police Assistant Chief Constable Sean O’Callaghan said: “We now know from enquiries we’ve been doing overnight and from witnesses that the two men were involved in a verbal discussion. That discussion lasted three to four minutes.

“It moved through one carriage from where they first boarded into another carriage, and that argument escalated to the violent attack that sadly resulted in the death.”

Witnesses on the 12.58pm train said the mayhem came following a row which may have been about the pair “bumping into each other”. Lee and the attacker boarded the service at 1.01pm at London Road station, near Guildford. Punches are said to have been thrown at first before the attacker plunged the blade into his victim.

One passenger said: “There was a lot of blood everywhere in the carriage.

“I don’t think the poor chap stood a chance.

“The police who were here first started to give him CPR but it was apparently too late to save him and he died while the train was in the station.”

Police were last night still appealing to passengers on the service for information.
