Barnsley, two divisions below the Premier League outfit, were right in the contest until Chris Wood’s injury-time penalty.
England international Tarkowski – who filled in at right-back – says he felt comfortable of going into tomorrow’s draw.
He said: “I thought
Barnsley played some good football but in the main we were quite secure at the back, which is always important in games like this – not to give away too many chances.
“And in the second half we had a couple of good chances and the penalty at the end, which gave us a great chance to win the game and which Woody put away. He’s on a nice little streak now and hopefully he can keep that up.”
This was Burnley’s third win in a week following Premier League victories over West Ham and Huddersfield. Manager Sean Dyche (below) made eight changes to his side. He said: “Although we weren’t fluid, I was pleased with the basics and how we did that. We lost the two right-backs and hopefully they will be ok for next week. “James Tarkowski has gone to right-back and I thought he was excellent.
“I don’t want to discredit Barnsley because I thought they were good. But I felt we had enough to win the game.”
