DR PETER ATTIA’S EIGHT LIFESTYLE LEVERS FOR A LONGER LIFE:

-

1. EAT WELL

“Increase the amount of carbs you eat until you hit your glucose and insulin target.

Reduce protein until you’re about to reduce your muscle mass, then make up the rest of your diet with fat.”

2. QUIT DRUGS

“Quitting smoking and drugs is the single most impactful change you can make to move the needle.”

3. MANAGE YOUR STRESS

“Meditation, and simply sitting is key.”

4. DON’T RETIRE FROM LIFE

“There’s something to be said for not retiring from life, even if you can afford to retire from your job and be completely financially free of the need for money. We are really happy to talk about the hazards of things like red meat, and yet when you look at the hazards associated with retiring, they’re greater. Stay active, with a sense of purpose in some way.”

5. SLEEP WELL

“If you want to make an animal, including humans, insulin resistant [when the body fails to take sugars out of the blood], all you have to do is deprive them of sleep. Keep the room completely dark, keep the room really cold, and don’t look at devices after a certain time.”

6. TRY TO BE HAPPY

“The misconception is that happiness is being joyful all the time…actually, we should instead seek wellbeing.”

7. DON’T DO STUPID THINGS

“Far and away the largest non-disease cause of death is accidental – motor vehicle accidents, accidental poisoning and falls. It’s very simple stuff. Don’t text while you drive, don’t drive with any alcohol in your system, not just below the legal limit. And look both ways at crossroads.”

8. FITNESS

“Glucose disposal and maintaining muscle mass are key. Place a premium on lifting weights. Frankly, I think squats and deadlifts are the two most important exercises.”
