GARY Lineker has lashed out at online trolls.

The England legend says he hates keyboard warriors labelling him “smug”.

Lineker was the latest celeb to be quizzed by hypnotist Paul McKenna in his Positivity Podcast.

The Match Of The Day host was asked what he felt was the public’s biggest misconception of him.

Lineker has attracted criticism for his anti-Brexit stance.

And the former Spurs star said it was the use of the word “smug” in comments relating to his posts on Twitter and Instagram which gets to him most.

Lineker, 58, said: “If you’ve got quite a big profile on social media people can misjudge you a little bit because of the written word and stuff.

“You often get people who say ‘you’re this, you’re that, you’re cocky, you’re overly confident’ or whatever it is.

“But I don’t know what the popular misconception would be of me.

“I’ll tell you the one thing I get sometimes, I get accused of being smug. And I’m most certainly not smug in any way.

“But I think people can misread things you say sometimes, or your humour etc. But that’s the only thing which sometimes takes me back a little bit.” told I’d be at the centre of such a big and important storyline, I thought ‘this is brilliant’. But I never truly understood what you’re capable of doing as an actor with a storyline like this.

“The fact you can give someone the confidence to come forward with their own story and finally ask for help is just incredible.”

In 2000, Gary Lucy, now 37, was at the centre of Hollyoaks’ world first male rape plot.

His character Luke was attacked by Mark Gibbs. So when Aedan was approached, his screen dad was able to

SUSAN HILL offer advice about how the storyline might affect him in real life.

Aedan, who has signed a new contract to stay with the series, said: “Gary has been a massive help.

“He did tell me how big the storyline would be, but it was so hard to believe at the time. Now that it’s played out I know exactly what he meant.

“We worked closely with Survivors Manchester.

Being able to talk to real people who have been through what Ollie has was invaluable. Everyone was so open and honest and it really helped me as an actor.”

And on his NTA nomination, he added: “It is just unbelievable. I still remember how I felt when I got the call to say I’d got the job on Hollyoaks. It was a similar feeling when I got the NTA nomination.

the scenes were shown. The charity’s founder Duncan Craig, right, now plans to show what Ollie went through during special workshops for pupils.

Duncan, who also worked with Coronation Street on David Platt’s male rape storyline, said: “What we have seen is that soaps are completely changing the way people are viewing the issue.

“This is the first grooming storyline in soap involving a young boy and we are currently getting on average two or three calls a day from people asking us for help.

“We noticed a massive rise in calls after Corrie “Whatever happens on the night, I’m just incredibly proud of what we have done.”

After a week of courtroom episodes, Buster Smith, played by Nathan Sussex, was found guilty of child sexual abuse. He now faces six years in jail. Since then, many more of Buster’s victims have come forward. Aedan said: “The trial is over and we will see Ollie trying to move on from it all. Of course, it’s something that will always be with him. But I’ve got some lighter stuff coming up with Brooke, which has been nice. “I’ve just signed a new contract so I’ll definitely be around for the near future.”

To vote for Aedan at the NTAs go to nationaltvawards.com. aired David Platt’s story, then it dropped down a bit until Hollyoaks caused another massive rise.

“This storyline has broken new ground. And it’s one that is so relevant as we have some big high-profile trials coming up.”
