During Clyne’s injury-ravaged three-and-a-half years at Anfield, he was never on the losing side against their bitter Mersey rivals. Whether Everton fans target him with a hostile reception today remains to be seen.

But Clyne, fully recovered from serious back trouble, says they will be wasting their time if they do. The England defender, 27, said: “I think I’m experienced enough to deal with whatever they give me. I’m really not sure what kind of reception I will get. You just try to block it out. “It doesn’t really affect the game. You focus on your job. “It is soon to be going back there but I’m looking forward to the opportunity and hopefully we can get a result.”

The Cherries will be desperate to stop their current slump in form. Eddie Howe’s side have lost nine of their last 11 games in all competitions.

And Clyne is convinced Howe’s free-flowing, high-pressing tactics will suit his overlapping style along the flank and help him revive his England prospects.

A forgotten figure at international level – with Kyle Walker (bottom left), Kieran Trippier (top left) and Trent AlexanderArnold ahead of him in the pecking order at right-back – he refuses to abandon hopes of playing for Gareth Southgate’s side again.

Clyne, with 14 caps to his name, said: “It does seem a bit overcrowded in there. But you just have to do as well as you can when you have the chance to play.

“There are always eyes watching and you never know, with injuries or players’ form taking a dip, there might be another opportunity to get back in there.

“As soon as I came here, I could see the quality in the team. After a full week of training, I can see the confidence is flowing.”
