ONE million protesters marched through the capital to call for a People’s Vote on Brexit.

Politicians including London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Tom Watson made rallying cries to demand another referendum.

Organisers said that one million demonstrators travelled to the city from across the country to join yesterday’s protest – making it one of the biggest in UK history.

An effigy of the prime minister stabbing the British economy with Brexit was paraded, alongside banners, placards and EU flags.

Marchers set off from Hyde Park Corner at midday playing music, blowing whistles and chanting in response to Brexit negotiations.

Broadcasters Mariella Frostrup and Richard Bacon addressed the crowds at a rally held in Parliament Square.

Deputy Labour leader Mr Watson tweeted: “The prime minister claims she speaks for Britain.

“Well, have a look out of the window, prime minister. Open your curtains. Switch on your TV. Look at this great crowd today.”

Independent MP Anna Soubry called on Conservative and Labour MPs to give the public a final say. She said: “Put your country first.” Also speaking from the stage in Parliament Square, London Mayor Sadiq Khan said: “No matter how you voted in the referendum, no matter what political party you support, we can all agree Brexit has been a complete and utter mess.” “With days to go we’re in danger of falling off the cliff, which will have catastrophic consequences. “It’s time to give us, the British people, a final say on Brexit.”

An online petition to revoke Article 50 to keep Britain in the European Union has now been signed more than 4.5million times, with the backing of celebs Hugh Grant and Jennifer Saunders.

As the London protest went on, former Ukip leader Nigel Farage rejoined his own March to Leave when it set off from Linby, near Nottingham.
