HARRY SO HAPPY TO BE A FOX
HARRY MAGUIRE insists he does not feel inferior playing outside the Premier League’s big six.
The defender, 26, was a £70million target for Manchester United last summer but a deal for a switch to Old Trafford never materialised.
Now, though, Maguire remains committed to Leicester and sees a bright future under new boss Brendan Rodgers.
He said: “You’re playing in a World Cup and you get to a semi-final. I think I was the only outfielder in the team who wasn’t playing for a so-called big-six club.
“There’s always going to be speculation in those circumstances but I was happy to stay at Leicester.
“I’ve signed a new deal so the speculation has gone. I’m happy as I am. We’ve got a new manager and things are looking really positive.
“I feel Leicester can be competing next year and I think we will have a good season. Hopefully we can take it to the next level.”
Although Leicester were Premier League kings in 2016, it proved a one-off – but Maguire believes silverware is still possible with England.
He said: “Obviously I want to be winning trophies. Playing in the biggest games is what every footballer wants to do.
“We reached a semi-final at the last World Cup. At the next tournament we’ll want to go further.”
