AB-SOLUTELY FABULOUS
Jordan reaping capital gains
JORDAN ABDULL knows that all the heartache surrounding his exit from Hull FC was worth it.
But the London Broncos standoff would love to underline it with a win against his hometown club this afternoon.
Abdull, who handed in a shock transfer request to Hull last August, said: “It was not ideal and it hurt.
“But they could not give me what I felt I needed at that time in my career – and that was enough game time.
“The timing was probably wrong but my idea was right and I will stand by that. I just felt it was right for my career.
“I’m a young lad who wants to be a half-back and I needed as much game time as I could so I decided I had to leave.”
Hull owner Adam Pearson was furious, telling Abdull, 23, to “pack up your bags and we will get you a taxi”.
He later signed a one-year deal with promoted side Broncos.
And it’s a move which has worked out even better than Abdull dared dream of, with the underdogs winning three of their seven games.
He said: “I have started every round as a starting half-back and I’m loving it.
“It will be weird playing against Hull but I cannot go into it thinking I’m playing against my old mates – this is another opportunity to get two points.”
London stunned Leeds with a late 18-16 win at Headingley last weekend and have also taken the scalps of Wakefield and champions Wigan at home.
Abdull added: “Not many people would have expected us to win three games all year.
“But if we keep turning up with the same effort we will get more wins. We have a willingness to die for each other and we try not to go home from any game wondering what might have been.
“A lot of teams are expected to put a big score on us so it takes a lot of the pressure off us.
“We don’t fear anyone because the boys have earned the right to play in Super League.”
The Broncos won promotion with a surprise away win over Toronto in last year’s Million Pound Game.
They stuck by most of the squad who were in the Championship last year.
But newcomer Abdull felt at home straight away – as his half-back partner James Cunningham, 25, was his captain in their Hull academy days.
He said: “We know each other really well and he takes a lot of the pressure off me in games.
“He does a lot of talking which makes defences think he’s going to get the ball, so that helps me out massively.”
