STEVE MILLAR Liverpool Legends 3 Milan Glorie 2

EXCITED Liverpool fans jam-packed into a buzzing Anfield finally glimpsed what they have craved for decades – title winners on the pitch.

Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League leaders will have to wait until May to see if they can end 29 years of hurt and be crowned kings of England.

But the faithful, if only for 80 short minutes, could feast their eyes on the superstar heroes who have gone before – all of them winners.

Like five-time title victor Alan Kennedy who, at

64, turned back the clock and pushed his aching legs through the first seven minutes of Liverpool Legends action against Milan Glorie.

And not forgetting the legends’ boss for the day, Sir Kenny Dalglish, who won the old First Division six times as a player and completed a hat-trick of titles as Liverpool manager – the last that final crowning glory in 1990.

It had been almost seven years since Sir Kenny had been in the Anfield dug-out – and it must have felt like home sweet home as he stood, arms folded, facing the stand named after him with his assistant Ian Rush by his side.

Another Kop legend, Steven Gerrard, revelled in the occasion – probably chuckling at constant cries of “shoot” every time he picked up the ball – and revealing that his old club winning the title would make him “the happiest man in the world”.

Gerrard said: “Thanks to everyone coming out to support the boys today. Believe me, I’m still feeling the pressure. I have got a day job and my focus is on Rangers.

“But I have got one eye on Anfield. I just hope the lads can get over the line because I will be the happiest man in the world.”

Gerrard hardly did shoot in the first half but his pal Robbie Fowler did with a prodded opener after

25 minutes.

Djibril Cisse slotted in the second, wildy applauding the Kop in the process, before Italian icon Andrea Pirlo whipped in a free-kick and Giuseppe Pancaro equalised.

But the drama wasn’t over as Anfield got its wish when Gerrard finally did shoot – and scored the winner to bring the house down. RED-Y FOR ACTION: Liverpool gloves man Alisson
