The big X Factor battle
TELLY couple Gemma Collins and James Argent are set for a showdown on The X Factor. Producers want the pair to compete on the new celebrity version later this year.
The couple have a fiery on-off relationship that producers think will be unmissable viewing.
A TV insider said: “Talks are ongoing and nothing has been agreed just yet, but execs think there’s a good chance they’ll get them to sign up.”
Gemma has sung on TV before on BBC show All Together Now.
And she is about to set the charts alight with a new song with producer Naughty Boy.
Arg regularly sings at gigs and has performed on TOWIE.
Our source added: “Gemma and Arg are perfect for Celebrity X Factor. They can both hold a tune but they’re not quite professionals, so there is still room for improvement. They will have the right mix of confidence and nerves. And they’re both big personalities.”
Gemma, 38, and Arg, 31, are two of the most talked-about reality stars on the box.
X Factor bosses reckon they will help pull in bumper ratings.
When Gemma appeared on Dancing On Ice earlier this year she helped the show grab an extra two million viewers.
Our source said: “Viewers will want to see how the competition affects their relationship. It will be a real-life soap opera.”
There will also be an All Stars series which will see former contestants return to the show.
Boss Simon Cowell said: “The time feels right and it will be a huge change... essentially there are going to be two versions of X Factor running this year.”
Robbie Williams and wife Ayda Field are expected to return to the judging panel with Cowell.
