Tyson’s a loose cannon WIFE REVEALS BOXING CHAMP’S HEALTH FEARS

- By ED GLEAVE

BOXING star Tyson Fury has been dubbed “a loose cannon” by his wife.

The former heavyweight champion, 31, is known for his erratic persona and has battled mental health issues.

But loyal Paris, 29, has stood by him for 15 years.

In a new interview about their life together, she admitted that he tests her with his unpredictable behaviour.

She said: “Tyson is a bit of a loose cannon. He won’t be controlled. Tyson says what he thinks, when he thinks it and that’s it.

“He’s always had a fragile state of mind and I’ve seen it over the years we’ve been married. He’s always had these highs and lows.”

Tyson and Paris have been together since they were teenagers.

During that time she has seen him become crippled by depression and diagnosed as bipolar and with an obsessive-compulsive disorder.

After years of suffering in silence, things came to a head for Tyson in 2016 when he failed a drugs test.

He said: “I woke up wanting to die on a daily basis. I didn’t want to live anymore because of depression, so that’s as low as you can go. We’re made to believe success is happiness, but that’s untrue.”

DAILY STAR SUNDAY, February 9, 2020 At his lowest point Tyson, who faces WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas this month, wanted to kill himself.

He added: “I woke up and thought, ‘Today’s the day I end it all.’

“I was heading towards this bridge, I was going to smash the car into the bridge at very high speed.

“I just didn’t have the ambition to live anymore.

“Before I got to the bridge I heard a voice saying, ‘Don’t do this, you’re going to destroy your family’s life.’ I immediately pulled the car over.”

Paris, inset, can recall the day she feared she would lose Tyson.

She said: “I remember when he went off in the Ferrari and before he left he said, ‘I ain’t coming back.’”

After getting help, Tyson is now coping well, but he is convinced that he will battle mental health problems for the rest of his life.

He said: “I haven’t defeated mental health. I still have bad days and good days. But I learn to maintain.”

Tyson Fury: The Gypsy King starts on Thursday at 9pm on ITV.
