CHASE IS NO FIX11

Beast’s fury at claim show rigged for stars

- EXCLUSIVE by ED GLEAVE

QUIZ star The Beast has bitten back at claims The Chase is rigged.

Some viewers are convinced the show’s star “chasers” get easier questions and extra time to answer them.

But the claims have upset Mark Labbett, who is adamant there is no foul play. He told us: “On social media, 95% of people saying The Chase is rigged are on anonymously. “They write a lot of rubbish and it’s often from accounts without any name attached. It’s so easy for J Bloggs with a blank profile picture to say it’s a fix.

“But when you ask them to explain how, they can’t.

“No-one has ever investigated it or put in a complaint to Ofcom. They make comments, but don’t actually look into it.

“All I can really do is keep saying, ‘No, it’s not.’” Show bosses

DAILY STAR SUNDAY, February 16, 2020 have always insisted the quizzers do not have an advantage.

Since launching in 2009, The Chase has become one of ITV’s biggest quiz shows.

Mark said systems are in place to make sure everything is fair.

He said: “We have dispute checkers all the time. We welcome people coming in and looking at us.

“There are safety features including some that we probably don’t know about.” In the past, fans have claimed that Mark was allowed to answer questions after the time was up.

But he is frustrated that people think he needs help to win.

He said: “I’m 54 but I’m still one of the fastest quizzers in the world.

“When people face me they have to be good and get the question right, but they’ve also got to be able to answer as fast as we do.

“I keep the stats. The average team manage to score 13 out of 23. We score 21 out of 26. We flip the coin over who gets what question.

“We take it seriously. If anything, it’s weighted in the favour of the contestants.”
