Band’s not Pet off by radio snub

-

★ NOT only do Green Day make great records, they own great records too.

Drummer Tré Cool told me: “I’ve got 584 albums on vinyl and I’ve got some cool things, original pressings of classic rock from the 50s to today. “And I’ve got test pressings of all the big LA and East Bay punk albums.” But it’s a Fab Four classic that is Tré’s pride and joy.

He spilled: “My rarest is Yesterday And Today by The Beatles with the non-censored sleeve.”

★ THE BRITs is known for bringing together artists for unique performances. And this year is no different as Sir Rod Stewart will be joining forces with Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones.

★ PET Shop Boys are still peeved that they don’t get played on BBC Radio 1 anymore.

The duo even hooked up with Years

& Years for Dreamland last year but didn’t get a sniff of the playlist.

Neil Tennant said: “If Dreamland had been a Years & Years single Radio 1 would have played it.

“But it couldn’t be played because Pet Shop Boys are too old.

“That’s just the way it is. Several times over the last 20 years the head of programming at Radio 1 has told our promotions guy, ‘This is a great record but we won’t be playing it’.

“It is a fascinating thing that we totally accept that because someone has reached a certain age you will not play their record on the radio.

“I won’t use the word ageism, but it’s amazing everyone accepts it. A record should be chosen on how good it is.”

Plenty of kids will be listening to them when they play Glastonbury this summer.
