UNSETTLED tomorrow with outbreaks of rain and hill snow. Very windy in the north. Turning colder on Tuesday with bright spells and plenty of showers, some of which will be heavy.
A HOMELESS man has appeared in court charged with stabbing a prayer leader at a major London mosque.
Daniel Horton, 29, is accused of grievous bodily harm and possession of a “bladed article”.
Raafat Maglad, 70, was treated in hospital for stab injuries after being attacked with a kitchen knife at London Central Mosque in Regent’s Park.
He returned to the mosque for Friday prayers, less than 24 hours later.
Prosecutor Tanyia Dogra yesterday told Westminster Magistrates’ Court that the victim suffered a 1.5cm wound to his neck.
She told the court the victim and defendant were known to each other.
The defendant confirmed his nationality as British and stated his name and date of birth.
Horton, who had been sleeping rough, was remanded in custody by District Judge Nina Tempia to appear at Southwark Crown Court on March 20.
