Move over Banksy ...here’s Tea Bagsy

- By JESS GRIEVESON-SMITH

A FORMER art teacher is creating amazing artwork out of tea bags.

Marie Kitson snips the ends off used bags, empties them and uses them as miniature canvases.

She has made hundreds of pounds from her paintings of places like the Mount, where Charles Darwin lived.

Marie said: “I’m still not entirely sure why I chose tea bags but I like to recycle and re-purpose things…and I do love a cup of tea.”

The keen recycler likes the amount of detail she is able to include in her paintings, which often feature landmarks around her hometown of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

Marie dries out the tea bags before glueing them to make them firmer and then delicately drawing and painting on top of them. She said: “I’ve been arty from a young age. It can take me about an hour to paint each one and I can do about five in a day.

“I have had a lot of people online suggesting what to do because it truly seems like people love them.

“They can’t believe the medium used, the small size and the detail that goes into them.” Marie joked: “People think my patience must be amazing; my husband Paul laughs at this as I don’t usually have a lot of patience. “I’d love to do something like a stamp, or for them to be used for an advertising campaign.”
