NEW SEA SHOOTER FOR SBS
BULLETS that can be fired underwater have been issued to UK special forces.
The ammunition can be used to take out targets from beneath the sea or to kill enemy frogmen.
Conventional bullets slow down and stop within a few feet when fired underwater.
The new ones can travel nearly 200ft via a process called supercavitation. They travel through a bubble of air that cuts drag dramatically.
Scientists believe they could even be used to punch holes in enemy submarines
or the hulls of warships. The ammo has already been used on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, where terrorists were killed by troops hiding in rivers.
In Afghanistan, two SBS commandos swam along a river close to the base of a ruthless Taliban commander.
When he emerged from the house, the SBS fired several rounds while submerged beneath the water before swimming away.
A source said: “Britain’s special forces are always looking for an edge over their enemies and this new type of ammo is just that.”
