‘Archers’ pub calls last orders

-

THE pub that was the inspiration for the one in Radio 4 show The Archers is closing, leaving a community devastated.

John Smith, landlord of The Bull Inn in Rippingale, Lincs, told regulars on Thursday evening.

Last orders were called the following day.

The pub inspired The Bull in the village of Ambridge where the radio show is set.

People took to the village’s Facebook page to express their dismay at the loss of the “community” asset.

Chris Charlton, the chairman of Rippingale Parish Council, was in the pub when the announcement was made.

It is understood the decision was made for financial reasons as the pub was not proving profitable enough.

Mr Charlton said: “It’s a terrible shame.”

He added: “People will moan about it closing but they haven’t actually used it that much.”
