FURY ‘WON’T BOX IN UK AGAIN’

- From DAVID ANDERSON in Las Vegas JULIE STOTT

TYSON FURY may never fight in Britain again because the big money is abroad.

He was assured of a career-best purse of at least £31million for his world heavyweight title rematch with Deontay Wilder at the MGM Grand Garden Arena earlier today. The Gypsy King, 31, has fought just once in Britain in the last five years and his co-promoter Frank Warren doubts if he will ever return because he can earn much more overseas.

Fury has two fights left on his deal with US broadcaster

ESPN and Warren said: “I don’t see him fighting in the UK again.

“I’d like to see him fight again in the UK but, having said that, he’s a boxer at the top of his game and he needs to go where the money is.

“That’s what sportsmen do. They’ve got a short shelf-life and they need to go and earn some money.

“He’s not deserting his country, fans can still watch it.

“We will go where the money is and that’s what it’s about for him.

“Fights still generate money in the UK but the bottom line is it can’t compete financially.”

ADRIAN LAM will continue to give Bevan French the freedom to use his full array of tricks and talent.

The Wigan coach insists the Aussie, 24, still has some vital lessons to learn.

But he admits he will never try to stifle the magic the full-back (below) seems able to conjure up from virtually nothing.

Lam said: “He is exciting to watch and I am sure he is putting bums on seats.three

“Bevan is a very smart player and he has been involved in the NRL for a long time and he has an X factor for us.”

French’s speed and trickery has seen him score three tries in Wigan’s opening games and he’s constantly hunting for more.

Warriors were cruising to a 32-10 win over Toronto last weekend when,

with just 11 seconds left, French almost set up another try with an outrageous bit of skill.

Lam said: “That chip-kick right on full-time got me excited. I love that flamboyant side of rugby league.

“I am not going to tell him not to do that but he has to learn there is a right time and a wrong time.

“He is picking that up as he goes along. We have been working hard with him on his positioning and he realises his role is ongoing.”

Wigan, who have beaten Warrington and Toronto and lost to Castleford, host a Hull side today who have also two wins from three.

Warriors scrum-half Jackson Hastings said: “It’s great seeing that everyone can beat each other. It makes for an exciting game.”

Sam Powell is expected to return for Wigan but like injury-hit Hull – who are without Carlos Tuimavave and Ratu Naulago – have several big hitters out.
