Stu ends Scot pain

JONATHAN JOSEPH insists he is not the weak link in England’s team and warned Ireland they will make a big mistake if they target him with an aerial assault.

The Bath ace, who wins his 50th cap at Twickenham today, will line up on the wing for the first time in his nine-year international career. But he said: “My handling ability is good. If the ball comes my way I’m going to own it.”

STUART HOGG’S stunning solo try inspired Scotland to a first Six Nations win and eased the pressure on coach Gregor Townsend.

The new skipper had also been feeling the heat after costly mistakes in the defeats to Ireland and England.

But he made up for the blunders with his 20th Test try to open the scoring and power his side to victory over Italy.

Hogg rampaged through a gap in the hosts’ line before striding away from Jayden Hayden to score a sensational try in the 23rd minute.

Hogg said: “I’ve had a lot of chat over the last couple of weeks about that drop against Ireland and I wasn’t making a mess of that one.”

Chris Harris and Adam Hastings added tries after the break to secure the win in Rome.

PETER WRIGHT capped off his win at the PDC Players Championship 5 with a 170 finish yesterday.

The world champion beat Gerwyn Price 8-6 in the final, with an average of nearly 110.

He missed a dart at tops in the earlier rounds to break his own broadcast record average – but still managed a whopping 120.2 in the 6-0 whitewash of Adrian Gray.

World No.1 Michael van Gerwen was dumped out by Christian Bunse and is still to win a title in 2020.

The German only averaged 92 compared to Van Gerwen’s 102 but ran out the 6-5 winner.
