WOLVES AT THE DOOR! Jimenez happy to breathe down the necks of rivals for top-four spot

-

RAUL JIMENEZ says Wolves now have to start believing they can touch the sky.

The Mexico striker hopes they can put one over Tottenham today to turbo-charge their bid for the Champions League places.

Jimenez says Wolves shouldn’t be shy about just why they are one of the teams that people are talking about.

They reached the last 16 of the Europa League last week by seeing off Espanyol and in the league only a point separates them from sixth-placed Spurs.

There’s an almighty scrap about to kick off and the £30million hitman firmly believes that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men deserve to be right in the thick of it.

Jimenez, 28, said: “Yes, we have to think of winning the Europa League. We have to be thinking we can touch the sky.

“We have to think like that. It’s possible. If we do it, it’s going to be amazing. If we don’t, I’m still very proud of this team.

“Tottenham is a very important game. We are fighting for the Champions League or Europa League positions and we know we have to do our best and keep doing that and win the game.

“They are close to us. We need to be intelligent to have a good performance.

“They beat us at home this season and last season but we beat them in their stadium last time we were the draw has pitched Wolves in with Greek side Olympiakos – shock conquerors of Arsenal in the last round.

He added: “We are confident against anyone. If we want to be the champions of the tournament then we have to be confident that we can beat anyone.

“There are some very good teams but if you want to lift the cup you have to be able to beat anyone.”

Spurs will be match No.46 for Nuno’s men this season and there was a train of thought that the slog of travelling around Europe and so many fixtures would prove a heavy burden. Jimenez said: “We are a small squad and that’s why we have to be ready. But there are the things I hoped for when I came here.

“Is life better here than I expected? Much better.

“When I arrived I thought we were a team that was capable of fighting and now I know we are a team that can achieve great things.

“It’s much better than I expected.”
