Hogan shows he’s Scott the right stuff

- TOM HARVEY

PEP CLOTET insists he will be doing everything he can to bring Scott Hogan to St Andrew’s on a permanent basis.

The striker netted twice for Birmingham in their 2-2 draw at Loftus Road to take his tally to six goals in seven games since joining on loan from bitter rivals Aston Villa.

And Clotet is hoping a deal can be struck.

The Blues boss said: “We’re very happy with him. For how we play he’s entirely what we want.

“The whole team is slowly learning about him and he’s learning about them.

“His movement is sharp, he’s dangerous and he’s a big threat in the final third.

“If he’s with us next season it would be very positive for everyone.”

It could have been even better for the visitors late on but penalty claims were waved away when Hogan stayed on his feet after being fouled.

“A penalty is a penalty,” said Clotet.

“If someone punches someone and doesn’t knock him out is it not a penalty? We’re encouraging people to dive.”

Hogan’s display was no surprise to Mark Warburton, the QPR boss who signed him for Brentford in 2014.

He said: “Scott’s a talented, dangerous player who has two good feet and is aerially strong.”

Birmingham led 1-0 when Hogan lobbed Rangers keeper Liam Kelly in the 24th minute.

But two goals in four minutes at the start of the second half – from Marc Pugh and Jordan Hugill – put the hosts in front.

Hogan then grabbed his second in the 81st to extend Birmingham’s unbeaten run to 13 games, nodding home from close range at a corner.
