Barnes is scared for NHS kids

- EXCLUSIVE by ED GLEAVE

FOOTIE legend John Barnes is worried about two of his children who both work for the NHS.

The star, 56, has a son and daughter who are putting their lives on the line to save others.

And he is frustrated that not all healthcare staff are getting tested for the virus, despite growing pressure on the Government.

Barnes said: “My daughter was in New Zealand and she came home early to go back to work.

“And my son is normally a plastic surgeon but he’s been called in to help.

“He had a baby a month ago but this has meant he’s living away from his family because he doesn’t know if he has the virus.”

He added: “I’m so proud of my children. But I’m not surprised they’ve come to the fore to help. I wouldn’t expect anything less of them. It’s all hands to the pump.

“We don’t know much about the virus. You hear about young people having problems, so of course you do worry. But as they’re young and healthy they would have a better chance.”

Several NHS workers have died after contracting the virus from patients.

The Government is under fire after it emerged just 2,000 staff had been tested by last Wednesday. Barnes pays tribute to his children on a charity special of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? which is due to air next Sunday at 7pm on

ITV.
