Quinn’s wife is on the front line

- By DAVID SNEYD

STEPHEN QUINN has represented his country and played in the Premier League – but insists there is only one superstar in his home.

The midfielder’s wife Vanessa will leave him and their three young children in lockdown from tomorrow to join thousands of NHS nurses on the front line fighting Covid-19.

And Quinn, who played for Republic of Ireland at the 2016 European Championships and with Sheffield United and Hull City in the top flight, is full of admiration for her.

The Dubliner (above) said: “It’s incredible. There is no worry on Vanessa’s part. She’s ready to tackle it and do her bit. It’s like, f***ing hell, she’s going to be on the proper front line.

“Everything else doesn’t matter any more because there are people dying from this virus.

“I’m worried about her but she is ready for it. This is what she wants to do and we just all have to try and get through this.”

The couple have told their children that Vanessa may need to be isolated from them when she starts her new role with personal protective equipment training.

Quinn, 34, who is now at League One Burton Albion, added: “The recognition society is giving nurses and doctors is what they deserve.”
