- By ISOBEL DICKINSON

A FIVE-year-old yesterday became the UK’s youngest coronavirus victim on Britain’s deadliest day so far.

Figures showed 708 people died in the previous 24 hours – bringing the total to 4,353, including the youngster.

The child, who had underlying health issues, is believed to be the youngest Covid-19 death in Europe.

The NHS confirmed 40 of the latest victims had no existing medical issues.

Boris Johnson’s pregnant fiancée Carrie Symonds, 32, has also been in bed with symptoms of the disease that recently put the Prime Minister, 55, into isolation.

The Department of Health said that cases yesterday rose by 3,735 to 41,903, down on Friday’s jump of 4,450.

But professor Steve Powis, NHS National Medical Director, warned the death toll would continue to increase for “a few weeks”.

Elsewhere, 13 residents at a Glasgow care home died in a week, as did seven medical staff after testing positive.
